We’ve just had a fantastic afternoon at the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) at an Olympic themed classical concert for children. It began with an art workshop where medals and Olympic flames were produced by the bucketload before the music began…
We listened to music such as Ski Sunday and the William Tell overture, complete with different sporting actions. In amongst some classical greats there was even a rendition of ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It Ride Your Bike’ 😀 There was also a story telling of the Hare & the Tortoise with a slide show and fast/slow musical accompaniment.
The children are introduced to different musical concepts and classical instruments (today being the turn of the string section) as well as being able to explore the music through movement. They can even have a go on some instruments before they go home.
This is a fantastic enjoyable experience for both children and adults together where you’re not expected just to sit and listen…it’s just a shame there’s not more like it! Well done Birmingham 🙂
